Good morning!
I am so glad it’s Friday! This has been a nice, sunny week…..which is rare for Columbus this time of year. But I think we are supposed to have a rainy weekend
.
Yesterday I decided to run at the Y. I knew I didn’t have the motivation to just go out and push myself to have a good run outdoors. So I did my Rolling Hills Run on the treadmill. It was a great workout! I ran a little over 3 miles of rolling hills. Depending on how my day goes, I’ll either go do some cardio and weights at the Y today or just stay home and get in a TRX workout.
I didn’t feel like typing or even looking at the computer last night. After work, I shut it down! I work from home, so I’m in front of the computer all day. So it was very nice to just shut down the computer and not mess with it for the rest of the night.
Runner’s World weight loss myth #5 is here with perfect timing!
5) Myth: You Can “Make Up” Weekend Splurges. Dieters in a 2008 study lost weight during the week, but stopped losing weight on the weekend because they ate too much.
Truth: The article states that by eating whatever you want on the weekend, you will cancel out five days worth of healthy eating. A nutritionist suggests consuming a similar number of calories on Tuesday as you would on a Saturday. They suggest eating a hearty breakfast to keep from eating more calories later in the day.
What are your thoughts on this Myth/Truth?
I agree with it to a certain point. I believe that if you don’t treat yourself every once in awhile, that could lead to giving in to more temptations and over eating. And it’s no fun! If I eat clean and healthy during the week, I will typically allow myself a cheat meal or cheat day on the weekend. I don’t usually have an entire cheat weekend though
. Many people go by the 80-20 or 90-10 rule. They will eat clean and healthy 80%-90% of the time; and allow themselves to treats 10-20% of the time. I know I don’t want to become a slave to the scale or logging in each and every thing I eat. I also try not to beat myself up over a “bad” day of eating.
Do you follow any eating rules? Do you allow yourself a cheat day or something like it? What are your tips for not splurging on the weekends?
I have loved the discussions and comments that these myths/truths have brought! Each of you have different goals and exercise methods. Keep the discussions going!
I probably won’t post again today. So you all have a wonderful weekend!
Christy

I read that myth too last night in my mag!
I do believe allowing yourself a cheat meal or day is fine as long as you are not stuffing yourself to the brim.
I used to be an avid Bill Phillips follower and would “binge out” on my cheat days. It was not good and took me days to debloat from the fiasco.
Now I try to enjoy a bit of goodness throughout the week and then if I go out to eat or have a special event I eat what I want but not too excessively.
Let’s see what happens today though-it is my bday….can a I practice what I preach?
Happy Birthday! I used to be a Bill Phillips follower as well. The cheat days were horrible. I guess it was meant to teach how eating poorly makes you feel!
Time to get out and enjoy the warm weather and mud. The rolling hills looks like a good run! Enjoy the weekend!
Hmm, that’s interesting but I guess makes sense. I try not to overdo it weekends but it’s definitely the time I let myself endulge a little.
I stick to my healthy diet on the weekends. I don’t believe that one bad meal or splurge can hurt, but I DO believe that one bad meal or splurge can make me want more and lead me down a road of temptation that I don’t want to visit.
I find that it’s easier for me to stick to my plan than worry about getting off track.
I am really strict on myself though…probably too strict!
I splurge occasionally at parties or eating out, but usually pay for it after! So now I try to keep my splurges limited to raw desserts
I love the images you include in your blogs. My fav has been the big smiling sun. Tot off topic. Sorry!!!
I try to make things a little interesting
I do believe that you can easily cancel out all the good you have done all week by splurging a little too much on the weekends. It adds up fast and if you go out for a few with friends, eat out, etc….. it makes sense to me. I know that I try to only let myself have one or 2 drinks on the weekend if I go out and usually eat at home before heading out with friends. That way, I don’t over do it and consume too much crap!
I wish I ate better. I live for cupcakes. With that said, my weight stays steady, so I must be eating how much I need.
YUM!!
I think that everything in moderation helps slurging on unwanted food!! I dont have a designated cheat day because I like to think that all food has its place and if you want something sweet and ‘unhealthy; you can always make up for it with something healthy the next day!
I believe in moderation for everything good and bad. Eating the good makes that treat – whether daily or otherwise – so much better.
I totally agree!!
